Bengaluru: Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Nestlé Health Science Ltd., the joint venture between Dr. Reddy’s and Nestlé India Ltd., have announced the launch of “Celevida GLP+”, a scientifically formulated nutritional supplement designed for people living with Type 2 diabetes and obesity.
The product has been specially developed for patients undergoing GLP-1/GIP-based therapies for diabetes and weight management. Celevida GLP+ is formulated to support muscle health and provide balanced nutrition during treatment, addressing the growing need for nutritional support alongside medication.
Addressing Muscle Loss During Weight Reduction Therapy
According to medical studies, patients undergoing GLP-1/GIP treatment for diabetes and obesity often experience significant weight loss. However, approximately 25% to 40% of this weight loss can come from muscle mass loss.
Medical experts note that Indians are particularly vulnerable, as they generally have lower muscle mass, higher body fat percentage, and comparatively low daily protein intake — averaging only around 0.6 grams per kilogram of body weight per day. Loss of muscle mass can negatively impact metabolic health and long-term wellbeing.
Healthcare professionals recommend a protein intake of 1.2 to 1.5 grams per kilogram of body weight per day during such therapies to help preserve muscle mass.
To address this nutritional gap, Celevida GLP+ has been developed under the guidance of leading diabetologists and endocrinologists.
Key Features of Celevida GLP+
- High-Quality Protein:
The formulation contains fast-digesting Whey Protein Isolate, which is gentle on the stomach and suitable for patients who may experience gastrointestinal discomfort during treatment. - High Protein Content:
Every 100 grams of powder contains 48 grams of protein and delivers 100% Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs). - 27 Essential Nutrients:
The product is enriched with 27 vital nutrients, including Vitamin A, Vitamin D, and Calcium, to support overall health and wellness.
Celevida products from Dr. Reddy’s and Nestlé have already been clinically proven to help manage blood glucose levels over 24 hours and support reduction in HbA1c levels.
Commenting on the launch, M.V. Ramana, CEO – Branded Markets (India and Emerging Markets), Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, and Director of the joint venture, said:
“GLP-1 therapies have brought significant progress in diabetes and obesity management. However, along with medication, it is equally important to address nutritional deficiencies and preserve muscle health. Maintaining muscle mass during weight loss is critical for long-term metabolic health and overall wellbeing.”
