5-km Walkathon held in Bengaluru under the theme “Walk Together, Stay Healthy, Stay Inspired” to celebrate the 167th Income Tax Day
As part of the 167th Income Tax Day celebrations, the Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income-tax, Karnataka & Goa Region, in association with the Income Tax Sports & Recreation Club, Bengaluru, successfully organized a Walkathon today, July 23, 2026, under the theme “Walk Together, Stay Healthy, Stay Inspired.” The event was flagged off by Smt. Vidisha Kalra, IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income-tax, Karnataka & Goa Region, from the C.R. Building, Queen’s Road, Bengaluru.
The Walkathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 600 officials and their family members from across the region. Led by the Principal Chief Commissioner alongside Chief Commissioners, Principal Commissioners, Commissioners of Income-tax, and senior officers, the participants covered a 5-kilometre route through Cubbon Park, highlighting the Department’s commitment to health, fitness, employee well-being, and an active lifestyle.
Addressing the gathering prior to the flag-off, Smt. Vidisha Kalra highlighted that this year’s 167th Income Tax Day holds historic significance as it is the first celebration following the implementation of the Income-tax Act, 2025, which came into force on April 1, 2026. She noted that the transition from the Income-tax Act, 1961 to the Income-tax Act, 2025 marks a major milestone designed to simplify tax laws, enhance clarity, improve taxpayer convenience, and foster voluntary compliance in line with the Government’s commitment to a modern, transparent, and taxpayer-friendly system.
She further observed that the Walkathon symbolized both the Department’s 167-year legacy of nation-building and public service as well as its forward-looking vision as it enters a new era of tax administration. Encouraging officers and staff to uphold the core values of integrity, service, and excellence while maintaining physical health, she emphasized that “Every Step Counts Towards Better Health”.
