Bengaluru : The timeless world of Lord Krishna will find expression through Bharatanatyam as the students of Kalanidhi Arts Academy, Yelahanka, present Śrī Krishna Leelāmritam – Leela • Rasa • Bhakti.
Conceptualised and directed by Smt. Pavithra Sridhar, Artistic Director of Kalanidhi Arts Academy, the thematic presentation explores the many dimensions of Krishna — the playful child of Gokula, the enchanting Madhava, the fearless protector and the eternal beloved of devotees.
The production traces Krishna’s journey through three interconnected ideas — Leela, Rasa and Bhakti. His playful childhood and divine mischief form the world of Leela, while his enchanting presence and the profound relationship between Krishna and his devotees lead the narrative into Rasa. The journey ultimately culminates in Bhakti — a state of love, surrender and devotion.
Through the vocabulary of Bharatanatyam, the young dancers bring together storytelling, expressive abhinaya and rhythmic movement to portray the varied moods and emotions associated with Krishna. The presentation moves seamlessly between the innocence of childhood, the power of the Divine and the profound beauty of devotional love.
A special feature of the production is its exploration of Rasa as a spiritual experience. Krishna’s relationship with the Gopis is viewed not merely as a tale of divine romance, but as a representation of the eternal longing of the individual soul for the Supreme.
The presentation culminates in the spirit of Bhakti, with the devotional tradition of Sant Namadeva adding a broader dimension to the narrative. It reflects how Krishna devotion has travelled across regions, languages and generations, continuing to touch the hearts of devotees even today.
“Krishna’s Leela is not merely something to be portrayed on stage. It is an experience that takes us from joy to love and ultimately to devotion. Through this production, I wanted the students to discover and experience these different dimensions of Krishna through Bharatanatyam,” says Pavithra Sridhar.
For the students of Kalanidhi Arts Academy, the production is an opportunity to go beyond technical training and engage with the expressive, cultural and devotional dimensions of classical dance.
