ಆಕಸ್ಮಿಕ [Unexpected] all Akasmika

All Karnataka & Kannadigas know of April 24 dates it is Birthday of Kannada Icon Dr Rajkumar

Also this week it is been 27 years of Theatrical release of Dr Raj iconic film “Akasmika” released as his Birthday Gift to his fans & kannadigas on April 22 1993 [ Today many online like IMDB / Wikipedia wrongly mentioned as 20 July 1993 ].

As per its Director TS Nagabharana, Dr Raj entry to “Akasmika [ unexpected ] only big Akasmika.

Director Nagabharana pitched “Akasmika” subject to do with Shivrajkumar & narrated the same to Dr Raj & his brother SP Varadaraj, after listening the subject Dr Raj walked away without giving any reactions / feedbacks. This put Director into dilemma later again on demand he narrated same to Writer Chi Udayshankar & Producer Parvathma Rajkumar who gave feedback that Dr Rajkumar is very much impressed with the Story [ Note :Earlier Dr Raj listened multiple stories for himself to do more than year but nothing impressed him ] & expressed his liking to act himself and the greatness of Dr Raj being the Directors Actor was that he was particular that whether Director feels that I will match up his vision & Approve me to act also was under guilt that nobody should feel that he snatching good opportunity of his son.

Now Decision was with Director Nagabharana for whom it was Akasmika [Unexpected ] to get offer to direct film with legend of 200 + films old, if some other in his position they would jump in joy to say yes..but TS Nagabharana being sensible & responsible Filmmaker took time to prepare himself to say Yes to do film with Dr Rajkumar in the lead as big responsibility on his shoulders since film may be titled “Akasmika” {Unexpected }  but now results should be as all Expected to Hit Box Office.

Rest is all History not only in the career of Dr Raj / TS Naghabharana or Hamsalekha but till today evergreen film in the Kannada Film Industry which as mentioned released on April 22 1993 and was box office hit which completed its 25 weeks run in the many Theaters.

Song from the film “Huttidare Kannadanadali “became like anthem for Kannadigas & Karnataka which again is another Akasmika [Unexpected] as per Music Director Hamsalekha & Film Team. Initially there was no situation / placement for this song but in discussions all felt a song should be needed to please diehard fans & reach Kannadigas & this song took birth & found its placement not only in the film but in all hearts of Kannadigas till today and in future..

This Song was shot in open roads of Rani Chennama Circle in Hubli with lakhs of people voluntarily involved to watch their Matinee idol and all Dr Raj grand kids took part in this song.

Dr Rajkumar Theater [Drama] days song “Anurgada bhoga” with fresh tune by Hamsalekha was incorporated which brought all old memories to the legend to sing & act ..

Another Song “ Agumbeya Prema Sanjaye “ was all favorites duet one which was shot in Agumbe & Kodachadri  Mountains [ Which 15 years later with Yogaraj Bhats “ Gaalipaata” film released in year 2008 become hot tourist hub / trekking point of Youngsters ]

“Akasmika” was film based & blended from the trilogy stories of novelist T R Subba Rao [ Ta Ra Su ]

Film was produced by Dr Raj Brother in Law cum Son in Law SA GovindRaj

Madhavi & Geetha were the lead Heroines while Vajramuni played lead antagonist.

Director himself played a cameo as Railway Station Staff and Train was also vital character in the film.

SV Srikanth was Dop & P.Bhaktavatsalam was Editor.

Today’s another sensible Film Maker P.Sheshadri was Associate Director along with B Raghunandan.

Not many know or remember that Puneeth Rajkumar was the costume designer for Dr Raj.

Earlier most of Dr Rajkumar Films Audio was releasing through “Sangeetha” [subsidiary of HMV] and one or two from “Lahari” but this film Audio first time launched through “Akash Audio” which was floated by Madhu Bangarappa and not only for “Akash Audio” but in Kannada Film Audio Market History it was highest selling records for next 3-4 years till broken again in the year 1996-97 by TS Naghabharana & Shivrajkumar film “ Janumada Jodi”.

Like film to film expectations and craze increases for Dr Raj this film also first time in Bengaluru Ulsoor area apart from Regular Ajantha Theater Morning Show & Adarsh Theater 4 Shows additional Screening of 3 Shows at Maruthi Theater which was just 3-4 Roads / few meters away from Adarsha Theater was given in the first week release which was another Akasmika [unexpected] in terms of both Maruthi Theater & Vajreshwari Combines Distributions History

Now all above mentioned Single Theaters no longer exists and only Narthaki, Prasana, Uma & Navarang Single Theaters exists which all screened “Akasmika” in Bengaluru City.

Its Silver Jubilee Run and earlier Dr Raj released film “Jeevana Chaitra” one year Run and next released film with Rebel Star Ambarish “Oddahuttidavaru” 100 days Run all under one stage celebrated as Trivali [ Triple Function ] Samarambha by Vajreshwari Combines at Chowdiah Memorial Hall.

Film won First Best Film & Introduced this category first time from that year of Male Play back Singer Award for Dr Rajkumar at Karnataka State Film Awards which was another Akasmika [Unexpected]

There were mixed & negative reactions and many felt should not have done when “Huttidare Kannadanadali” remix version was used in Shivrajkumar film “Cheluveye Ninne Nodalu” released in year 2010

Just some observations or similarities kind which don’t know whether Akasmika [Unexpected] or Influence / Inspiration as of now personal opinion

As all know Kannada Film “Akasmika” released in the year 1993 and Tamil Film “Kaaka Kaaka” released in the year 2003 staring Suriya Shivkumar & Directed by Goutham Menon.

There is 10 years gap in between these 2 films in this period many drastic changes occurred on the Human Life/ society and world mainly Mobile Phones & Internet which in Police and Criminals lead to term & enhancement like Organised Crimes & Encounter Specialists also Film Industry saw changes like Entry of Multiplexes and Non Linear Editing System like Avid.

Little technical details will go first “Akasmika” Final Run time is 144 Minutes approximately in which immediately after title cards post which Dr Raj Introduction in Christian Grave yard without any dialogues goes to flashback mode at 5:40 minutes and ends post interval till 96 Minutes which is accidental death of wife Madhavi during Honey Moon at Agumbe and trying to save her Dr Raj also gets injured & lands into coma at Hospital. As per film in flashback episodes Dr Raj will be still common man post that will join Police Force for his mission to find the victim Geetha & nab criminals focused on Woman Trafficking & Prostitutions racked of those times which was scattered / decentralized crimes which ends on finding Geetha & Vajramuni dies accidentally with train hitting in climax.

If now full in 1 length considered Madhavi portions only comes & goes as sub plot with main focused on Dr Raj, Geetha & Vajramuni…

This Film when released Dr Raj age was 60 + an Iconic celebrity of Indian Cinema with 200 + films old & 4 decades in the Industry.

Now if goes 10 years later released “Kaaka Kaaka” with 137 minutes running time approximately as already pointed what all changes the society, film industry & world witnessed

After title cards immediately starts with injured Suriya introduction falling into lake at 3:26 time and starts with energetic song after which goes to flashback mode at 11:00 minutes and ends till post interval 104 minutes as said with some changes like Suriya in full film shown as Police Encounter Specialist with fight against organized criminals which involves like kidnapping, extortions & Woman Trafficking etc..in this only one heroine Jyothika both accidentally meets leads to friendship & gets married and in their honeymoon time gets attacked by Criminals and Suriya will be injured and lands into coma at Hospital & Wife will be kidnapped and Suriya mission now to save kidnapped wife & nab criminals which ends wife also killed by antagonist later Suirya also kills him in the end..

When this film released Suirya age was around 27 with struggling for stardom with 10 + films old & 6 + years in the Industry…

But as all know this film gave Stardom not only to Suriya but most of its actor and Director Gowtham Menon & Technical team Music Director Harris Jayraj, Dop RD Rajashekhar , also to its Editor Anthony who got applause for this lengthy flash back narration and others editing cuts handling effectively with non linear editing system Avid which was in its initial stages.
