The award-winning indie filmmaker Ishan Shukla (“Star Wars: Visions”, “Schirkoa: In Lies We Trust”) will be directing the two-part animated epic “BAAHUBALI: THE ETERNAL WAR”
The mega-budget mythic saga stemming from the world of Baahubali is produced by Baahubali makers Shobu Yarlagadda, Prasad Devineni (Arka Mediaworks) and S.S. Rajamouli. Baahubali star Prabhas will lend his voice to Baahubali, and Ramya Krishna will voice Sivagami. The music will be composed by Oscar winner M.M. Keeravani, renowned for his work on RRR and Baahubali.
Part One has been slated for a 2027 release exclusively in movie theaters. A preview, which can be seen in theaters ahead of screenings of “Baahubali: The Epic”, is available here.
Set in the wake of the iconic cliffhanger that ended “Baahubali: The Beginning”, “The Eternal War” will follow the betrayed and murdered prince Amarendra Baahubali (voiced by Telugu cinema titan Prabhas in a reprisal of his film role) into the afterlife. His heart aching for those he left behind, Amarendra Baahubali finds himself at the center of an ancient cosmic war between devas and asuras. As he navigates through the 14 realms of existence, he forges an unlikely alliance, confronts divine forces beyond mortal comprehension, and fights to restore balance to the cosmos. Ramya Krishna reprises her role from the live-action films as well, voicing Sivagami once again.

Award-winning animator Ishan Shukla (“Star Wars: Visions”, “Schirkoa: In Lies We Trust”) will direct both films. Scott Mosier (“The Grinch”, “Free Birds”), who began his career producing Kevin Smith films including Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Dogma, will write the screenplays. The films are based on a story by Ishan Shukla and Sowmya Sharma. (“America Ammayi”).
Excited about the reveal, filmmaker Ishan Shukla says, “When I pitched Eternal War to Shobu, I thought the idea was too ‘out there’. This idea lived in that space where Baahubali meets Indian cosmology. But he and Rajamouli sir didn’t just say yes, they leaned in completely. That trust changed everything. I went all in. That trust is both exhilarating and humbling. As an ardent fan of Baahubali long before becoming its creator, I want to honor what millions of people love while pushing the boundaries of contemporary animation.”
“What we’re creating with ‘The Eternal War’ is a love letter to Baahubali, while daring to ask: what happens when his soul becomes the cosmic battleground between Devas and Asuras? The possibilities unlock boundless creative freedom in animation, which I absolutely needed for something of this scale. It’s been years of collaboration with incredible artists across the world, building new realms and aesthetics for this universe. I can’t wait for audiences to see what we’ve dreamed into existence.” Shukla adds.
SS Rajamouli, who wrote and directed both live-action Baahubali films and re-cut them into the monumental “Baahubali: The Epic”, will produce the films alongside producers Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni. He says, “When Ishan brought us the idea of expanding the Baahubali universe into a stylised animated epic, it clicked instantly. It feels like a seamless, organic extension of the world we built, one that will thrill long‑time fans and invite new audiences in. I am excited to bring these two films to the big screen.”
Baahubali producers Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni share their joy and add, “We’ve always believed in expanding the world of Baahubali beyond traditional live-action cinema. Over the years, this led us to explore transmedia storytelling across multiple platforms—books, comics, games, VR experiences, and even two animated series that premiered on Hotstar and Prime Video. While these were smaller in scale, they gave us the opportunity to expand the Baahubali universe in exciting new directions.
When I watched Ishaan’s film Shrikoa: In Lies We Trust, I was deeply impressed by his storytelling and visual language. I suggested that he explore how the Baahubali universe could be reimagined through stylised, high-quality 3D animation. With The Eternal War, he managed to take the essence of Baahubali and carry it into a new realm of storytelling. Set in a vast cosmic realm, it carries the same heart, scale, and ambition that defined Baahubali, while embracing the boundless creative freedom that high-quality animation allows.”
