11th Edition of Bengaluru International Film Festival [ BIFFES ] 2019 was recently got over from Feb 21 to Feb 28 2019.
The opening ceremony was held on Feb 21 2019 at Vidhana Soudha Banquet Hall with Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri H.D. Kumarswamy , Versatile Actor Anathnag, Hindi veteran Film Maker Rahul Rawail, KCA Chairman Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, KFCC President S.A.Chinne Gowda & other dignitaries presence.
Regular film screenings and other events were held at PVR Orion Mall from Feb 22 to Feb 28 2019.
Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Film of 2018 ” Roma ” of Mexico along with Best Director and Cinematography for Alfonso Cuaron and some prominent world cinema of 2018 like Japanese “Shop Lifters “and our own Kannada Mainstream Hit ” KGF” was on must watch list in festival and many movie buffs were disappointed for lack of seats to watch this films.
Open Forum talks with Rahul Rawail and discussions with other eminent film makers & scholars was eye opener for movie buffs.
“KGF” Success panel discussions had presence of its core technicians Bhuvan Gowda , Ravi Basur and Shivkumar.
Poland Film Maker Krzysztof Zanussi presence and his films screenings and talks were highlights.
Indian Postal Department came out of First day cover on BIFFES was another recognition to festival.
Karanataka Chalanachitra Academy on sidelines of BIFFES 2019 published and released 3 books related Film Maker Girish Kasarvalli & Kannada Film Industry 75 & 85 years completion.
Country Focus was Poland & Israel.
Closing ceremony was held on Feb 28 2019 at Vidhana Soudha Banquet Hall with Governor of Karnataka Sri Vajubhai Vala presence and felicitating all award winners of BIFFES 2019.
Mookajjiya Kanasagalu novel by Shivarama Karanth and film by P Sheshadri has been adjudged as the first best film in the Kannada Cinema Competition category.
Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum, a Tamil film directed by Vasanth Sai, has been adjudged the Best Film in the Asian category
Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Jaa Riya Hoon, produced and directed by Anamika Haksar, bagged two awards — FIPRESCI-International Critics Jury Award and Best Indian Film Award in the Chitrabharathi Indian Cinema
Nathicharami by Mansore won the Netpac International Jury Prize for Kannada cinema.
The Kannada blockbuster KGF-Chapter 1 by Prashanth Neel, Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shale, Kasaragodu, Koduge Ramanna Rai by Rishab Shetty and Tagaru, directed by Suri have been adjudged the top 3 respectively best films in the Kannada popular entertainment category.
