With the Republic Day holiday resulting in a three-day long weekend, travel enthusiasm among Indians has remained strong, according to a recent report released by MakeMyTrip. The data highlights clear preferences in both domestic and international travel during this period.
For domestic travel, Goa has emerged as the most booked destination during the long weekend. Other popular Indian destinations include Jaipur, Udaipur, Manali, Pondicherry and Munnar, as travellers opted for leisure-oriented getaways. The report also indicates a noticeable rise in spiritual travel, with destinations such as Puri, Varanasi, Amritsar, Ayodhya, Tirupati, Ujjain and Dwarka witnessing strong booking demand.
On the international front, Thailand topped the list as the most preferred overseas destination, driven by ease of travel and strong air connectivity. Vietnam also recorded a significant increase in bookings, along with continued demand for destinations such as the UAE, Malaysia and Singapore.
Long weekends traditionally encourage leisure travel, as people seek relaxation and short breaks. However, choosing the right destination often becomes a point of curiosity for travellers. Addressing this interest, MakeMyTrip has shared insights into where Indians are travelling the most during this Republic Day long weekend, based on bookings made for travel between January 24 and 26.
Commenting on the trend, Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO, MakeMyTrip, said that travellers continue to actively plan short vacations during long weekends to unwind and enjoy quality time. He added that MakeMyTrip aims to facilitate seamless travel planning by offering relevant insights into traveller preferences. Compared to the same period last year, there has been a noticeable increase in overall travel interest, reflecting growing enthusiasm for both domestic and international trips.
