Recently concluded Jio Mumbai International Film Festival 2023 paid tribute to Late Sudhir Nandgaonkar pioneer in Film Society & Festival movement in Bombay [ Mumbai ] & Maharashtra by conducting Memorial Lecture of his contributions delivered by Eminent Kannada Film maker Padmasree Dr Girish Kasarvalli.
Kasaravalli in his lecture about almost hour spoke about the contributions made by Sudhir Nandgaonkar to the in starting “Prabhat Chitra Mandal” film society movement in that time Bombay [ Mumbai ] along with support from film makers like V Shantharam & many others in late 1960s era.
Nandgaonkar also brought best International & National Award winning films screenings under Film Society by pooling funds to procure the same.
Nandgaonkar being academician also started Film Appreciation course to regional language Marathi also took same to Educational Institutions.
Mr Kasarvalli also recalled when his first debut full length feature film “Ghattashradha” after it won Swarna Kamala [ Golden Lotus ] Award at National Film Awards , one print was acquired by Sudhir & was showcased across all film societies across the country.
Mr Kasarvalli also expressed his concerns in today the film society movement declining & gave feedback to bring back the glory by engaging conversations between after the film screening with Film Maker & Audiences even in virtual mode by making use of todays technology.
The hall was jam packed with the presence of late Sudhir Nandgaonkar family , Film Academician & Critic Ashok Rane , Kiran Shantharam , Supran Sen ,Deepti Dcunha , Meenakshi Shidde etc.
