The 1st Annual National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru & Ministry of External Affairs [ Govt of India ] NIAS-MEA ‘Polar Dialogue’ of 2 days which recently concluded was initiated with Keynote Address by Shri Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs and Dr. M Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences. Shri Tanmaya Lal stressed on importance of scientific knowledge in governance of polar regions including Himalaya.

Dr Ravichandran elaborated on impact of changes in polar regions on tropical weather and climate. Amb Raghavan highlighted potential geopolitical conflicts leading to disputes.
It was followed by release of the inaugural issue of NIAS ‘Indo-Arctic’ Monthly. A Poster Workshop on Polar Regions’ by young scholars was also organised.
