Publications Division Releases Book Exploring the Creative and Personal Bond Between Indian Cinema’s Iconic Brother Duo Dev Anand and Vijay Anand

‘Hum Dono: Kahani Dev Aur Goldie Ki’ authored by Tanuja Chaturvedi was ceremonially released by the Directorate of Publication Division (DPD), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in a function organized at IICT Campus, NFDC Complex, in Mumbai today (March 13, 2026). The book celebrates the artistic partnership and cinematic legacy of two iconic personalities of Indian cinema, Dev Anand and Vijay Anand and throws light on their creative collaboration and lasting contribution to the Indian film industry.

Renowned filmmaker, screenwriter and actor Amole Gupte, who was the Chief Guest at the programme, reminiscized about his first meeting with Goldie Anand. The Anand brothers along with the other legendary film personalities of that era had created iconic films, stated Amol Gupte.

Bhupendra Kainthola, Principal Director General, DPD, stated that the publication of this book is Government of India’s unique manner of paying tribute to the legendary film personalities Dev Anand and Vijay Anand. He further said, DPD publishes significant books on Indian culture and cinema being an important part of the country’s culture, DPD took to publishing this book. The mandate of DPD is to take good literature to the people at a nominal price, he added.

Vishwas Deoskar, CEO of the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), highlighted the importance of formal training for emerging talents of AVGC-XR sector, which IICT is providing.

Speaking about her book, author Tanuja Chaturvedi described this moment or formal launch of her book as overwhelming. The author was associated with Navketan Productions and stated, “I feel the blessings of Dev Saab and Goldie Saab even now”. She recalled various memorable moments with the legendary brother duo of Indian Cinema. The author Tanuja Chaturvedi thanked DPD’s team, including Chief Editor Kulshrestha Kamal and Editor Shuchita Chaturvedi for their works on the book.

On this occasion, a MoU was exchanged between the CEO, IICT and Principal DG, DPD. By means of the agreement, DPD will publish all books of IICT books on AVGC-XR sector, so as to take credible information on the fast emerging sectors of the orange economy to schools across the country.

About “Hum Dono: Kahani Dev aur Goldie Ki”

Through rare references, memoirs, and historical details, author Tanuja Chaturvedi has presented the personalities and creative journeys of iconic star Dev Anand and celebrated film-maker Vijay Anand with sensitivity and depth. The chapters of the book trace a significant creative phase of Hindi cinema when the duo introduced a distinctive cinematic style and storytelling approach.

The book begins by exploring the cinematic landscape of the 1950s and the circumstances surrounding Vijay Anand’s entry into films, followed by their early experiments and successes with films such as Nau Do Gyarah (1957) and Kala Bazar (1960). It further examines the making and impact of landmark films including Hum Dono (1961), Tere Ghar Ke Samne (1963), and especially Guide (1965).

‘Hum Dono’ presents an important documentation of the golden era of Indian cinema. Publications Division has published the book in Hindi to make its engaging and research-based content accessible to a wider Hindi readership.

The book vividly narrates the creative and personal relationship between Dev Anand and his younger brother Vijay Anand, popularly known as Goldie Anand. Together, the two brothers created several memorable films and, through their distinctive artistic vision, made a significant contribution to shaping the evolution of Hindi cinema.

The Hindi edition has been brought out with the objective of making this important work on the history of Indian cinema accessible to a broader audience, enabling readers to better appreciate the contributions of these two legendary filmmakers.

The book is expected to be of significant interest to researchers of Indian cinema, students, film enthusiasts, and general readers alike.
