MB Patil champions Karnataka as a global investment hub in Japan, engages with Air Water and Konoike

The Government of Karnataka, with Shri M.B. Patil, Hon’ble Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, spearheading the roadshow, engaged with leading Japanese corporations to attract fresh investments and strengthen economic partnerships. The initiative positioned Karnataka as India’s premier destination for global investors, showcasing the state’s strengths in industrial gases, renewable energy, steel engineering and infrastructure. As a major outcome, Air Water announced plans for investment in Karnataka and setting up of another unit near Bengaluru to produce industrial gases. Similarly, the discussion held with Konoike, a Japan-based industrial services and engineering company has expressed plans to strengthen its presence in India through partnerships and investment.

Shri MB Patil, accompanied by senior officials including Shri Selvakumar S, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Commerce and Industries, and Smt. Gunjan Krishna, IAS, Commissioner for Industrial Development and Director, Department of Industries and Commerce, held strategic meetings with Japanese companies presenting Karnataka’s strengths as a progressive, innovation-driven state with a skilled workforce, strong policy support, and world-class infrastructure.

In the meeting with Air Water, a global leader in industrial gases and renewable energy, presented its investment plans in India with Karnataka as a key focus market. The company highlighted that while it currently operates a plant in Vijayanagar, it is keen to establish another unit near Bengaluru to produce industrial gases. Additionally, Air Water expressed its intent to set up a biomethane local supply chain in Karnataka using a unique production system that leverages unused resources such as cow dung and bagasse. The Government of Karnataka assured the company of complete facilitation and support for these proposed investments.

The delegation also engaged with Konoike, a Japan-based industrial services and engineering company with expertise in steel engineering, slag treatment, and infrastructure. With its corporate vision of “Make India second business home,” Konoike shared its plans to strengthen its presence in India through partnerships and investment. The company is seeking strong local partners to co-develop solutions and has expressed interest in investing as a minority shareholder in an India-based engineering/construction firm. The Government of Karnataka positioned the state’s robust industrial clusters as an ideal anchor for Konoike’s India growth plans and extended full support in identifying prospective partners and facilitating necessary approvals.

During the visit, the delegation also visited the Health Care Pavilion, USA Pavilion, and Japan Pavilion at the Osaka World Expo 2025 to explore opportunities for collaboration across high-potential sectors.

The Government of Karnataka delegation reaffirmed its commitment to enabling global companies to leverage the state’s strategic advantages, robust infrastructure, and progressive policies to accelerate their India growth journey.
