“Kireedam” year 1989 film starring Mohanlal & Directed by Sibi Malayil was screened at recently concluded International Film Festival of India [ IFFI ] 2025 in Goa under Special Screening showcase restored in 4K resolution by the National Film Archive of India (NFDC-NFAI).
On the sideline at the presscon Its Film Director Sibi Malayil responded iam comfortable in Malayalam to my question that why he did not Direct its remake versions in other languages of Telugu ,Hindi ,Kannada & Tamil versions.
But further he responded that he got offers from all the languages for to Direct remakes include in Kannada & Telugu by its lead actor Shivrajkumar & Dr Rajashekhar but he did not take up due to language barriers, even furthered mentioned why “Kireedam” was even today considered as landmark and classic because of its content and its Action portions which was not choreographed by Stunt Director but he himself done with the Mohanlal and antagonist.
In Hindi it was “Gardish” staring Jackie Shroff & Directed by Priyadarshan & Tamil Version was staring Ajith Kumar with titled “Kireedam”
It is noted that “Kireedam” fetched its lead actor Mohanlal his First National Film Awards [ Special Mention ] and the Director Sibi Malayil just recalled in the Mohanlal early careers in one of his film auditions , Sibi was on the jury panel and gave him low marks for the acting & now he is happy that for his Directed films with “Mohanlal” fetched 2 National Film Awards as Actor for him another was film was for “Bharatan” and this year Mohanlal got Union Governments Prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award” for which entire Malyalam Film fraternity and people of Kerala happy.
In Kannada it was “Moodada Marayeli”Produced by Dr Rajkumar home banner staring his son Shivrajkumar who was in early film journey and showcased his acting skills and he lost Best Actor Karnataka State Film Awards as policy that Remake films not considered.
Along with the Sibi Malayil ,Film Producer Vijayakumar & NFDC Managing Director Prakash Magdum was present & Nikita.A.S from PIB Trivandrum moderated.
