Participating in a film festival session specifically centered on Rajkumar’s name, ChalanaChitra Academy Chairman Sadhu Kokila said, ‘In any cultural context, one can see Rajkumar alongside Kuvempu. He belongs to everyone. Rajkumar sang a few songs for which I composed the music. Back then, he would come fully prepared before singing. On the day of the recording, he would make us all stand in a line, touch us from head to toe in a gesture of deep respect and only then go to sing. Such was his culture. Unlike stars today, he didn’t arrive surrounded by bouncers; he was surrounded by fans. It was enough for him to step out of his house-all of Karnataka would be waiting to see him. He used to take 25,000 rupees for a song, but all of it would go to a trust for the poor. He never spoke about it himself’ said Sadhu Kokila.
