The celebrated Army Service Corps (ASC) Motorcycle Display Team has added yet another glorious chapter to its illustrious legacy. In the run-up to the 266th Corps Day and XII Reunion, Maj Amrit Panda created a new world record in the category of ‘Longest Continuous Ride Standing on the Seat of a Motorcycle’. Surpassing the previous record of 107.92 km, he covered an astounding 154 km, taking the ASC Tornadoes’ cumulative record tally to 36 World Records. This extraordinary achievement is not merely a triumph of physical endurance and technical skill; it is also a tribute to India’s brave war heroes and a reflection of the enduring values of patriotism, courage, discipline and perseverance that define the Indian Army.
The journey of the ASC Tornadoes began in 1982 under the leadership of Maj. (later Col.) C. N. Rao, assisted by Capt. JP Verma and Subedar Dhan Singh, and its spectacular debut at the opening ceremony of the Asian Games in December 1982 marked the beginning of a remarkable journey of courage, skill and excellence.
Since its inception, the team has continued to ride Royal Enfield motorcycles, relying on the rugged and dependable machines, complemented by rigorous training, meticulous preparation and countless hours of practice, to execute extraordinary motorcycle formations and daring stunts with precision and safety.
Their journey has encompassed Republic Day Parades, high-altitude expeditions and displays in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Recent highlights include participation in the 2026 Army Day Parade, the Kargil Vijay Diwas Ride and the challenging Raid de Himalaya.
Lt Gen Ajay Ramdev, SM, Commandant, ASC Centre & College, Bengaluru, witnessed the record-breaking feat and congratulated Maj Amrit Panda and the entire Team Tornadoes for their outstanding achievement, bringing further laurels to the Army Service Corps and reaffirming its position as one of India’s most accomplished motorcycle display teams.
