The Women in Blue secured the ACC Women’s Asia Cup title for the record eighth time after registering a clinical 72-run victory against defending champions Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium, in Dubai. Team India had an invincible run by remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.
Team India’s campaign began with a commanding 94-run win over Thailand. Opener Shafali Verma started the tournament on a positive note after scoring 64 off just 36 deliveries in the first innings. An impressive bowling display, led by three-wicket hauls from Deepti Sharma and Nandni Sharma helped India defend the target with ease.
India’s second game of the league stage saw vice-captain Smriti Mandhana break an all-time record as she surpassed the legendary former India Captain Mithali Raj in the list of most runs in international women’s cricket. The Team India vice-captain scored a scintillating ton against Hong Kong as India registered a massive 137-run victory.
The domination continued for India in the league stage after a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Pakistan with more than 11 overs to spare. Sree Charani and Prema Rawat spun the web and claimed three wickets each as Pakistan were all out for just 55. India’s match against Pakistan was a memorable game for Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who became the first captain in the world, across both men’s and women’s cricket to play 150 T20Is as a captain.
India completed a 40-run win over Bangladesh in the semi-final. Opener Shafali Verma once again put on a show with the bat, scoring an entertaining 64 off just 40 deliveries. Deepti Sharma’s three wicket haul in the second innings later helped India restrict Bangladesh to 109/7.
India faced defending champions Sri Lanka in the final, a repeat fixture of the 2024 edition. It was the Smriti-Shafali show in the final as the openers put together a spectacular 129-run partnership and powered India to a massive total of 183/5 in the first innings.
