Kartikeya Vajpai Brings ‘The Unbecoming’ to Bengaluru with a Foreword by the Dalai Lama

Bengaluru : Bengaluru’s vibrant literary circle welcomed a new voice as author and lawyer Kartikeya Vajpai launched his debut novel The Unbecoming at Blossom Book House in the city.

The event drew a mix of readers, writers, and professionals, reflecting the city’s growing appetite for thought-provoking, introspective literature.

The book, featuring forewords by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Swami Sarvapriyanana, places itself within a wider philosophical dialogue on modern living and the human condition.

Blending contemporary spiritual thought with literary fiction, The Unbecoming explores themes of identity, purpose, and self-awareness.Moving beyond a conventional launch format, the evening evolved into an engaging exchange of ideas around inner inquiry, personal growth, and the process of shedding conditioned identities, resonating strongly with Bengaluru’s intellectually curious audience.Speaking at the launch, Author Vajpai said, “This book comes from a very personal space of questioning who we really are beneath everything we have been told to become.

Over time, we begin to carry identities shaped by family, society, ambition, and fear, and we rarely stop to examine whether they are truly ours.

The Unbecoming is an invitation to pause and reflect on that. It encourages a deeper inquiry into what happens when we begin to let go of these layers, not in rejection, but in understanding. When that process begins, there is a certain lightness and clarity that emerges, allowing us to respond to life more honestly rather than react out of conditioning.

For me, the idea was to explore that inner shift through storytelling and make it accessible in a way that feels real and relatable.”Published by Penguin Random House India, the novel traces the evolving relationship between Siddharth, a celebrated cricketer, and Ajay, the coach who shaped his journey. As their long-standing guru–shishya bond is tested, both are compelled to confront the illusions of identity, the fear of the unknown, and the pressures of expectation.

Through layered storytelling and philosophical insight, the narrative reflects on the process of shedding inherited identities and returning to one’s essential self. The session concluded with an interactive discussion and book signing, where readers had the opportunity to engage directly with the author.

The Unbecoming: Let Life Reveal Its Purpose is now available through leading bookstores and online platforms across India.
